Gemstone & Sterling Silver Malas

Japa & Mantra Sadhana

Japa is the repetition of sacred mantra either by chanting vocally or mentally, usually with the assistance of a mala (prayer beads). Chanting mantra is the simplest and most vital technique for creating an environment for concentration, meditation, and purification. The fruit of mantra sadhana is the focusing of the mind towards deep meditation, with the resulting enrichment of inner peace, health, success, and Self-realization.

This mala has been meticulously handcrafted for your own personal use. It is beaded onto pure silver wire, which has been professionally smelted to remove impurities, and create the highest vibrational qualities possible. Silver, being a shiny white metal, is alchemically affiliated with the moon, and symbolizes purity. The gemstones selected are similarly carefully chosen for their fine grade, colour, and luster.

Using your Japa Mala:

  • Malas are traditionally composed of 108 beads. Smaller malas made of fewer beads are always multiples of 9 (usually containing 27 or 54 beads), and are called “sumirni” malas.
  • Malas are considered to be personal items and are treated with respect and care. When not in use they are traditionally kept on your puja.
  • When doing japa your mala is held in the right hand only, if you are sitting on the floor it is held high enough so that it never touches the ground.
  • The beads are held by the middle and ring finger, and are turned one by one by the thumb. The little and index fingers are kept away from the beads.
  • The “guru” bead is not used for japa and is considered sacred as a symbol of Divine Grace and Divine Consciousness and the wisdom offered by a guru.
  • Japa is started on the first bead next to the guru bead.
  • If japa is to be repeated more than once, then the mala is turned to make the last bead the first; so that the guru bead is never passed.
